Eyelid surgery

Surgical approach

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty" eyelid surgery corrects swelling and wrinkles around your eyes, helping you to look more rested and youthful. It can also relieve the eyes of the weight of excess skin, resulting in less eye strain and an improved field of vision. This surgery can also be performed on younger people with hereditary heavy eyelids. This type of surgery is also popular with people of Asian descent.

Surgery details

Incisions are made along the natural folds or wrinkles of the upper and lower eyelids, where scars will be least visible. Excess skin and fat are then removed.

In the case of lower eyelids, the incisions are sometimes hidden inside the eyelids.

Anesthesia... without general anesthesia

Local anesthesia with sedation is used for your eyelid correction. Therefore, this eyelid plastic surgery is performed by Dr. Fanous without the need for general anesthesia. You can go home the same day as your blepharoplasty.

After blepharoplasty

Recovery time

Immediately after surgery, you may experience tearing, itching, dryness, irritation and drooping of the eyelids. Tiny pimples may develop along the scar. Don't be alarmed. These symptoms tend to resolve within a few days to a few weeks. As the operation is not performed on the eyes, but on the eyelids, visual deterioration is highly unlikely.

Generally, your face is presentable and you can return to work two to three weeks after eyelid surgery.

Results

Blepharoplasty results

The result will continue to improve for at least six months after the operation. You'll look younger after the operation... and you'll keep that age difference in the future.

Other interventions

Wrinkles at the outer corners of your eyes (crow's feet) and fine lines on your lower eyelids will be less visible, but will not disappear after surgery. However, these wrinkles can be improved by other non-surgical treatments (Botox, plasma, laser, peel) after surgery.

Low eyebrows

If your eyebrows are low, they are often corrected with a forehead "lift" at the same time as the facelift operation (see: forehead "lift"). Drooping eyebrows intensify the wrinkles on your upper eyelids and tend to make you look depressed and tired. Drooping eyebrows and a wrinkled forehead are corrected by a forehead lift (Frontoplasty) called "0.0.3". This technique, taught by Dr. Fanous, is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery or a facelift.

Possible complications

Risks

As with any other surgical procedure, complications are possible but infrequent: infection, bleeding, excessive scarring, sensory changes, skin necrosis, asymmetry, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, nerve weakness, loss of sensation, loss of movement, etc. Visual complications are very rare. Sight complications are very rare.
